Drupal is an open source CMS (Content Management System) recently adopted by the University of Delaware. The purpose of a CMS is to make it easy to create and maintain web content of various types, including Blogs, Discussion Forums, FAQs and RSS feeds. Drupal is an extremely powerful and flexible tool, and is capable of managing highly complex websites, which can be user created to the extent desired by the site's administrator.
Unfortunately, Drupal's administrative interface is vast and complex. Although reasonably intuitive, the sheer number of options available to a site designer/administrator can quickly become overwhelming. A simpler, less flexible CMS would be easier to master, but at the same time less powerful. Finding the right balance between power and ease-of-use is always a challenge. Drupal leans toward the powerful, but difficult to master end of the scale. It remains to be seen whether UD's choice of Drupal will ultimately prove to be a good one.
